OTOPLASTY (EAR CORRECTION)
Ear corrections are amongst the most frequent and varied plastic operations. Congenital malformations, injuries or tumours are indications.
The Procedure Otoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia in children and under local anaesthesia in adults. Local anaesthetic is being instilled to prevent discomfort and for gentle tissue dissection. Incisions are on the back of the ear to avoid visible scars. A shaping dressing is applied, which is kept in place for several days. An overnight stay is normally not necessary. Dr.Blaschke and his team will see you for regular checks. After otoplasty an elastic head band must be worn day and night for 3 weeks. Surgeon’s Remarks The ears are more important for the body image than is generally assumed. School children are particularly sensitive to taunts. However ear deformities are equally disturbing to adults, be it through injuries or tumours, and the remedy is a relatively small procedure.
