FILLERS AND INJECTIONS
Wrinkles can be treated by injections (eg Hyaluronic Acid), skin treatment or dermal stimulation. If muscular activity is the cause, like on the forehead, Botulinum Toxine is the obvious choice. Emaciated faces (by ageing, excessive training, disease) can be treated by fat or more viscous fillers or solid implants. For the repair of soft tissue defects on the extremities fat is the obvious choice.
The Procedure
Botulinum Toxine infiltration, Hyaluronic Acid injection and dermis stimulation are outpatient therapies, which are regularly performed by Dr. Blaschke in his rooms – especially during courses he regularly holds for colleagues. Fat transfer – most often from abdomen to face – is done under local anaesthesia and sedation, solid implants will be inserted under general anaesthesia.
Botulinum Toxin takes about 3 days to have an effect, which will normally last around 4 – 6 months. Hyaluronic Acid will be metabolized depending on viscosity, structure and site within 4 – 12 months. Fat can last far longer, but has to settle properly in the recipient site. Fat injection can lead to several days of bruising, whereas the other substances generally show very little swelling.
Surgeon’s Remarks
Botulinum Toxine has become a fashion drug, administered by medical practitioners without special qualifications and even beauticians. It is easily forgotten that one deals with a highly toxic substance, which has to be used under the precautions it deserves.
